Betty Cid is NOT part of  Flamenco Pasión.

Over the past month or so there have suddenly been a large number of articles posted on the web which make a a variety of claims about a dancer called Betty Cid, and that appear to be using content taken directly from my own website.

I must stress that Betty Cid is NOT part of Flamenco Pasión or Sonido Flamenco, and has never been a member of any of my flamenco groups.

Interestingly, according to these various “articles” and “announcements”, Betty Cid has performed at the Commonwealth Institute, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and the Royal Festival Hall – the exact same venues detailed on my own biography page.

I cannot comment on all the other various claims made in these articles (and on her own websites), but I have been reliably informed (by one of her fellow students in fact)  that part of the video footage currently on her site is actually of a class run by La Escuela de Baile last year…where she was taking part as a student.  Betty Cid is certainly not a regular performer at the Phoenix Club as far as I am aware, and I am also having difficulty tracing the other groups and shows mentioned in her biography.

If Betty Cid really does wish to be part of Flamenco Pasión or Sonido Flamenco …then she is very welcome to bring her “winsome smile” along, and have an audition!

    Hi,
I have studied flamenco in London for around five years now with a variety of really good teachers and have never come across Betty Cid before. I have look on the web over the weekend and there are loads of blog pages that have references toher but they all seem to say exactly the same thing! Looks like spamming to me.

    Hi,

I’m currently a flamenco student and researched ‘teachers of flamenco’, very carefully, before starting lessons. I have never come across Betty Cid(and any her extraordinary claims) until now! I sense mischief here – spamming?

  • a gravatar flamencodancer Said:

Yes, I too am having difficulty finding any independant references to Betty Cid’s extraordinary claims.

Talk about Spamming…just Google the terms “Looking for Flamenco courses to learn flamenco dancing” or “Flamenco Dancer Instructor Required!” and draw your own conclusions ;-)

Hey guys, try looking up “Could anyone recommend a good Flamenco school in London”. Betty Cid spamming herself into oblivion!

  • a gravatar Yumi Said:

Betty has never claimed she was a part of your company or owns it at all. Thanks.

    Hi Yumi,

There have been several claims across the internet to the effect that Betty Cid’s own groups are Flamenco Pasión and Sonido Flamenco. Both these groups were in fact founded by myself several years ago, as I think most people know.

These claims take the form of “articles” and “announcements” on a variety of article submission sites.
Authorship varies between Betty Cid herself and others, but the content is practically identical.

There are current examples of this at the following urls:

    http://www.articletrader.com/view/html-172078.html

Several of these articles have been removed following DMCA notices for copyright infringement, and I have kept archived copies of all infringing material. I’m sure people will understand that I need to protect my both my own reputation and that of others in my groups.

    Sandra,

I think you should have tried to find out what caused the problem first, as I know it wasn’t Betty herself who did it. I don’t know how this happened.

Anyway, she is a flamenco dancer who is as good as you.

I hope anybody involved in flamenco will stop insulting other artists.

    Thanks.

    Yumi,

It seems that you are now sending e:mails directly to my flamenco colleagues with the suggestion that I may be making all this up out of jealosy. As well as factual inaccuracies, you are also including personal insults which would clearly be classed as malicious.

If Betty Cid were aware of this, of course, it would be even more serious.

I have written to you separately to cease this attack.

I just want to say that I have been lucky enough to have been a student of Sandra’s for more than two years. When I first went into her class I was struck by the warmth of her personality and the openness with which she welcomed everybody who came. Anyone acquainted with Sandra will know that she is generous and straightforward, and simply not capable of making something up about Betty Cid out of petty jealousy. On the contrary, she gives lots of opportunities to other artists. Whoever is responsible for making these false claims should stop.

    Hey Sandra,
Seems that this Betty Cid’s website has now been banned. It has been delisted from Google. There are still hundreds of spam links to it out on the net, so I guess this was eventually what was picked up on. Do PM me if I can be of help here.

  • a gravatar flamencodancer Said:

Betty Cid’s website is still present on their server – it’s just that its Directory Index has been removed. I suspect the site is being re-thought :lol

The spam links are still out there. A few are being removed by moderators, but that still leaves hundreds remaining, so it remains to be seen how Google will behave when the site is re-published.

If google banned the site, I think it’s enough punishment ;)

Yes, but we need to be vigilant to protect genuine flamenco artists, wherever they are. This persons false claims are on many places I have still seen on internet sites. I am not a performer but an aficionado, and Betty Cid is not world famous or has been with any famous flamenco group I have knowledge of.
